Windsor Great Park is situated to the south of Windsor and spills over into Surrey due to its enormity. The park spans more than 2,000 hectares, beginning at Ascot to its southern extremities and heading up to the castle to its north. This is the ideal place to go for walks, to enjoy the scenery and for horse riding, all very popular activities. Windor Racecourse is a venue for thoroughbred horse racing and is shaped in a figure of eight shape, an unusual occurrence in the UK. The first meeting at Royal Windsor Racecourse took place in 1866 even if horse racing dates back to the time of Henry VIII. Race meetings take place throughout the year at the course, while it is also a suitable venue for meetings and events as well as dining.
