The Arnolfini is one of Europe’s finest and most important centres for the contemporary arts. The iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge has spanned the Avon Gorge since it was finally completed in 1864. Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the bridge is a grade I listed building. The first foundation stone was laid in 1831 but the project was beset by financial difficulties and was abandoned in 1843. Its completion in 1864 came five years after the death of its great designer.

The SS Great Britain was the world’s first great ocean liner, designed by legendary engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel to transport passengers in luxury to New York. The SS Great Britain set new standards in engineering, reliability and speed; launched in 1843, she was the world’s first large iron-hulled ship and the first to be driven by a screw propeller. Now standing in dry dock, the SS Great Britain is a magnificent sight and a fascinating day out.
