Click for travel directionsOne of Cambridge’s few four-star city centre hotels, the University Arms Hotel Cambridge is Victorian in design and has a number of traditional interior features. With a particular emphasis on top quality food, the hotel has a restaurant and bar as well as more than 100 bedrooms and a range of flexible meeting rooms.

Parts of the hotel’s exterior are not particularly attractive although the side which looks out over Parker’s Piece exhibits something of the University Arms’ heritage. The hotel was built in 1834, at a time when it had just 15 bedrooms, before it had further extensions and alterations. Famously, in 1893, the University Arms became the first hotel in Cambridge to use electric lighting.

The University Arms Hotel is located on one of Cambridge’s main thoroughfares and is a short walk from the very heart of this compact city. Cambridge itself is a rather lovely city, with picturesque greens and colleges, cobbled streets and idyllic bridges crossing the River Cam. Visitors can explore the likes of the Fitzwilliam Museum and Kettle’s Yard Art Gallery or take a trip along the river during their stay. It is certainly worth a walk round the city during a visit in order to take in some of the impressive sights and soak up the relaxed atmosphere. If travelling to the region by train there is a station approximately one mile from the hotel while for those travelling by car there are a handful of car parking spaces underneath the property.

As well as classic rooms there are also executive doubles and a couple of luxurious suites named Emmanuel and Regency, bringing the total number of rooms to 119, while the food at Restaurant 17 is classically British thanks to the efforts of head chef Richard Cephas who has created tasty seasonal choices. Finally, for meetings and events at the University Arms Cambridge there are nine facilities, the largest of which is able to host up to 300 people at any one time.
