The Varsity Hotel and Spa is a boutique property with an abundance of class and style, situated in the centre of this beautiful university city. Opened in the summer of 2010 the hotel boasts fantastic views of its surroundings, with the River Cam and a number of university colleges, such as Magdalene, St. John’s and Trinity, nearby. Inside the hotel offers modern features throughout its bedrooms and its leisure spaces, the latter of these taking up residence in an 18th-century warehouse known as the glassworks. Further, the gym has already been voted the world’s second best by Arena magazine, some prestigious honour.
After initially opening the Glassworks health club, the company's founders have set out on this Varsity Hotel and Spa venture, having graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1995. Scrapping plans to build flats in the area he then decided to bring a much-needed addition to the city’s four-star hotel market. Now complete, the hotel’s top two floors are built from glass and steel and there is even a rooftop garden, named Fellows Gardens, on the sixth floor.
This university-themed hotel is found next to the River Cam and is also a stone’s throw from Jesus’ Green as well as one of Cambridge’s punting centres. Conveniently, there is a car park just two or three minutes’ walk from the Varsity Hotel’s front door while a number of the university’s other college, in addition to the aforementioned, are also an easy walk away. While simply wandering around the city is a delight in itself, a trip to the Fitzwilliam Museum or the Kettle’s Yard Gallery is sure to enhance any visit to the city, home to the Varsity Hotel and Spa.
