It houses a number of museums, with a maritime museum, a militia museum detailing the story of the Royal Guernsey Militia, the 201 Squadron museum and the Hatton Gallery. In addition, there is also an exhibition about the Gallo-Roman shipwreck discovered in a nearby harbour mouth in 1985.

The German Underground Hospital was built on Jersey during the occupation between 1940 and 1945, using the forced labour of men from many nations. Hohlgangsanlage 8 as it was known is a superb feat of engineering and has been wonderfully preserved. In the miles of tunnels, operating theatres, doctors and nurses' quarters, wards, offices, stores and several unfinished tunnels are on display and bring to life the experiences of the people who suffered appalling hardships building the tunnels and also offer an insight into the subterranean lives of the casualties for whom it was constructed.

The German forces occupied the Channel Islands from 1940 until the end of the Second World War in 1945. During this time work began on an underground fortress as an outcrop to the famous Atlantic Wall. The fortress was never completed, and the unfinished complex has been restored and is now home to Captive Island, a museum depicting the German Occupation of Jersey. Reconstructed rooms, archive films, and a collection of Occupation memorabilia are on display inside, while anti-aircraft gun positions, barbed-wire entanglements, crawl trenches, and a Garden of Reflection can be found outside.
