The Lappa Valley Steam Railway is a preserved narrow gauge line that originally ran between Newquay and Chacewater to carry tin ore. Part of the line has been kept open, and features wonderful vintage steam trains, which run along the 2-mile stretch of track through attractive Cornish scenery. There is also a boating lake, crazy golf course and a family picnic area.

Pendennis Castle was built to protect Falmouth and the anchorage of the Carrick Roads between 1540 and 1545, as part of Henry VIII’s intensive building up of defences along the English coast. Much of the simple round castle and the later additions are still intact, and make an interesting day out, as well as affording stunning views of the surroundings.
