The Peak District is an area of incredible natural beauty, and a major draw for tourism in Derbyshire. It was the first place in the UK to be designated as a national park, and rightly so, offering miles and miles of undulating hills. For those wishing to enjoy the Peak District to its fullest, there are some lovely villages to stay in within or nearby the park boundaries, such as Bakewell and Buxton.

Affectionately nicknamed ‘The Devil’s Arse’, Peak Cavern is an atmospheric Peak District landmark. The expansive cave formation is reached by passing traditional industrial cottages, and the mouth of the cavern itself held a small community until the turn of the 20th century. Tours are available into the different chambers of the grotto, up to and including the ominously named ‘Styx’.

Ashbourne sits on the southern edge of the Peak District, and is known as the ‘Gateway to Dovedale’, a National Trust site and walking area. Near this, outside the village of Thorpe, sits Thorpe Cloud. This is a walkable hill, which rewards you with attractive views from the top. However, this is only a little bit of the hundreds of miles of countryside that make up the Peak District.
