Click for travel directions Buxton’s Historic Old Hall Hotel is one of the oldest hotels in the UK, and the current structure has roots in the late 16th century, on the foundations of an earlier building. As you walk into the Old Hall its heritage surrounds you and the mellowed walls whisper their many secrets. Mary Queen of Scots was held here as a house prisoner in 1573 and had apartments for a number of summers. Daniel Defoe, writer of Robinson Crusoe, also once stayed here. The Old Hall retains that rich pedigree of the past whilst catering for today’s discerning guest. Take a stroll across the leafy square and you are in the Pavilion Gardens, with its 23 acres of parkland. Alternatively you could visit the exquisite Edwardian Buxton Opera Theatre, home to the annual Opera Festival.

The facilities at the Old Hall Hotel Buxton are both comfortable and well presented. All the bedrooms have en-suite bathroom, satellite TV, hospitality tray, hairdryer and telephones - many of them have desks and all are non-smoking. The Old Hall Restaurant overlooks the gardens and offers excellent cuisine with vegetarian choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s renowned for its theatre suppers - choose your starter and main course pre-theatre and chat about the production over sweets and coffee afterwards. Alternatively eat in Mary’s Wine Bar, which offers a wide variety of snacks, coffees and teas, and is fully licensed.

The Old Hall is a very special place and guests return again and again to experience its heritage and comfort. Whether your interest is walking, theatre, places of interest or stately homes, the Old Hall offers a getaway break for you. It is a convenient central accommodation choice for exploring Buxton itself or enjoying the opera festival. It is also within easy reach of the Peak District National Park, which itself contains a wealth of British history and offers some of the most attractive scenery in England.
