Exeter’s Bill Douglas Museum and Research Centre for the History of Cinema and Popular Culture was established in 1994, and presents a fascinating history of film, cinema and visual media. A vast collection of artefacts and exhibits are on display, with everything from puppets and postcards to cameras and props.

Exeter Cathedral is one of Britain’s most treasured medieval cathedrals, and is the city’s most prominent landmark. Evidence exists of a place of worship on the site from as early as the 5th Century, but the present cathedral was built and extended over a period from 1114 and 1375. The magnificent decorated Gothic style gives the cathedral a distinctive appearance, and despite attempts by the Luftwaffe to destroy it in 1942, Exeter Cathedral is still one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions.

Powderham Castle is the seat of the Earl of Devon, and has been the family home for centuries. The magnificent castle stands at the heart of a beautiful estate to the south of Exeter, on the banks of the River Exe. The 14th century castle has been added to over the years, and required repairs after being damaged during the Civil War. It features a lavish interior with important collections of furniture and artwork.
