Click for travel directions The Old Ship Hotel enjoys a prominent location on Brighton’s famous seafront, and has a reputation as Brighton’s oldest hotel, with parts of the building dating back to 1559. The Old Ship is certainly an easy hotel to recognise; its distinctive white façade and handsome architecture make the hotel stand out – quite remarkable in such an extravagant and avant-garde city as Brighton. The Old Ship has a particularly historic background, and was at one time linked with the royal escape of Charles II in the 17th century. Its assembly rooms got caught up in plenty of 19th century fanfare: in 1819 they hosted the Prince Regent Ball; in 1831 the room played host to Nicolo Paganini’s violin recital, and the London to Brighton railway opening celebratory banquet was held at the hotel in 1841.

Brighton was, and still is, the South of England’s quintessential seaside resort. In the earliest days, the upper classes would head for the coast to sample the bracing sea air and the heyday of the British seaside holiday in the Victorian and Edwardian eras. This was followed by the decline and subsequent rebirth of Brighton into a cool, sophisticated and overtly Bohemian city. The Old Ship Hotel has witnessed the evolution of Brighton and still offers the same values of hospitality, elegance and style as it has done for centuries. Being situated on the seafront, this Brighton hotel is ideally positioned for the beach and promenade, as well as The Lanes, the town centre attractions and the Brighton Centre. The hotel is easy to get to by road, rail or air.

Brighton’s Old Ship Hotel has 154 elegant en-suite rooms, designed with a blend of contemporary and traditional styles. The hotel may date back to the 16th century but the facilities belong to the modern day. The venue offers fine dining with sea views in Location 3 Restaurant, while the bar is popular with residents and non-residents alike. Furthermore, Brighton is the south coast’s premier venue for meetings, conferences and events and the hotel certainly does not lag behind in this respect – the hotel offers 13 well-equipped meeting and event rooms capable of hosting events large and small.
