At the Colne Valley the golden age of steam is still alive and well thanks to the sterling efforts of the Colne Valley Railway Preservation Society. A one-mile length of this historic railway track has been preserved and a fleet of beautifully restored steam locomotives take passengers through the picturesque Colne Valley scenery. There are special displays and family days organised throughout the summer months.

Hylands House is a beautifully ornate grade II listed building dating from the 18th century, set in more than 500 acres of landscaped gardens and parkland near Chelmsford in Essex. Kelvedon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker may be set amid the beautiful Essex countryside, but it offers a chilling insight into the past, and the fear of nuclear attack on the UK. It was built into the side of a hill, with three-metre thick reinforced concrete walls, and extends into a labyrinth of rooms, chambers and command centres into which the British Government would have retreated, and from where the country would have been run. Visitors can see for themselves the bunker with its own water supply and electricity generators, BBC studio and radar room.

Mangapps Railway Museum is a fully operational working museum, near Burnham-on-Crouch in Essex. There are 10 steam and diesel locomotives operating on three quarters of a mile of track, which features beautifully restored signal boxes and painstakingly recreated stations.
