The historic Down Hall Country House Hotel dates back to the 14th century and offers a traditional and luxurious place in which to stay in the Hertfordshire countryside. Set amid 110 acres of woodland and gardens, the hotel features a grand exterior and an ornate interior, bringing together a quintessentially English experience for visitors from near and far.

For many years the Down Hall was passed down through various families and bought out by others over time. During the First World War the mansion was used to house injured soldiers but in 1929 it was sold and has not been used as a family home again since. For a number of decades the property was used as a school and then in the 1960s it was transformed into a conference centre. Finally, in 1986, the Down Hall was turned into a hotel, a status it retains until this day.

It is found part way between Harlow and Bishop’s Stortford and is just 15 minutes or so from Stansted Airport. Convenient road access is provided thanks to the M11 while the nearest train stations are found in the aforementioned towns. Among the attractions near to the hotel are the likes of Audley End House and Gardens and the Imperial War Museum Duxford.

There is one shy of 100 bedrooms at the Down Hall Hotel in Hertfordshire, each of which is traditional and with a range of modern comforts. The hotel offers two choices for meal times – the Grill Room and Ibbetsons, the latter named after a former owner of the property. There are no fewer than 26 conference facilities at the Down Hall Country House Hotel, with space for up to 200 people if necessary. It is also a suitable place to celebrate your wedding, what with its traditional elegance and grounds making it a striking backdrop for photos.
