Manchester Cathedral is one of the largest and most magnificent medieval collegiate cathedrals in the country. It now has an excellent Visitors Centre and a delightful licensed restaurant in the basement so visitors can really make the most of a day out and enjoy this superb building to the full. A parish church in the area was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 but the current building was constructed a little while later in the 13th century.

Formerly the Urbis Museum in Manchester, the futuristic looking building now houses the National Football Museum. Formerly part of Preston North End’s football stadium Deepdale the museum is home to all sorts of famous paraphernalia from the 1966 World Cup final ball to football shirts from some of the game’s greats. Admission is free of charge.
