Hever Castle lies a short drive from Tunbridge centre, and is a hugely historic stately building. Originally a 13th century castle, it later became the residence of the Boleyn family. Anne Boleyn spent her childhood here before marrying King Henry VIII. His fourth wife Anne of Cleves also lived here. Now it is a popular visitor attraction filled with Tudor exhibits, coupled with stunning landscaped gardens.

Scotney Castle is an elegant 19th century country home surrounded by traditional gardens. Scotney is technically the ‘new’ castle. It sits atop a hill, at the bottom of which are the remains of the ‘old’ medieval castle and its moat. Scotney Castle was a private residence for many years, but it is now open to the public as a National Trust property.
