Situated near to Piccadilly in London and as part of the prestigious Burlington Arcade, the Burlington House is home to several art and science societies. Grosvenor Square in Mayfair is among the most exclusive parts of London and is home to elegant buildings and an elegant garden. It takes its name from the Duke of Westminster, whose surname is Grosvenor, and it is he who owns a number of the properties in the area. This part of London was developed from the 18th century onwards and has since been among the most fashionable and upmarket places in the capital. Today it is home to the US Embassy which has particularly tight security.

Composer George Friderick Handel lived in this house in Mayfair from the year 1723 through until he died in 1759 and it was here that he dreamt up the likes of the Messiah and Music for the Royal Fireworks. Around the house today visitors will find portraits of Handel as well as other items from the composer’s life. Music events take place at the museum throughout the week too.
