Opened at Crystal Palace in 1920 the Imperial War Museum initially consisted of exhibits gathered during the First World War. It was reopened in its new and current location in 1936 and it now features items from other wars such as the Second World War while there is also a Holocaust exhibition.

This museum of modern art is well known internationally and is part of the Tate group that includes the Tate Britain, the Tate Liverpool and the Tate St Ives. Set in a former power station the Tate Modern lies on the South Bank, a stone’s throw from the Thames, and exhibits items dating from the 20th and 21st centuries. The museum actually opened in the year 2000 and includes pieces from some of the world’s renowned artists as well as some more quirky contributions.
