The Savoy, on the Strand in London, is one of the most famous five-star luxury hotels in London, if not the world. Since opening its doors to the public in 1889, the Savoy has established a reputation for elegance, opulence and style that is second to none. The Strand is in the heart of London’s famous West End theatre district, and none of the famous street’s landmarks are more instantly recognisable than the Savoy.
Distinctive art deco styling and bold architecture pervades throughout this stunning hotel, and, while the facilities and amenities have been updated and modernised over the years, the Savoy’s quintessential character and the spirit of a bygone age have been remarkably well preserved. In 2007 the Savoy Hotel London closed for a period of extensive refurbishment, thought to cost more than £100 million and re-opened three years later in 2010.
With its location near the Strand looking out over the River Thames, the Savoy Hotel is perfectly positioned in the heart of London’s glamorous West End. The area’s theatres are within easy walking distance and some of the world’s most famous shows and productions can be seen in the dozens of venues. The West End is also celebrated for its plethora of upmarket shops, and the streets around the Strand are home to a host of exclusive names and labels. There is also no shortage of bars and restaurants nearby, and of course all of London’s celebrated attractions and historic sites can be easily reached on foot, by bus or by tube.
