The Hillbark Hotel near Liverpool is a handsome country house hotel set in a beautifully secluded spot at the heart of the Wirral Peninsula. It is difficult to be certain what is the greatest appeal of this hotel. On one hand it has a fabulous location, offering respite and a rural getaway from the stresses and strains of modern life. At the same time it is effortlessly accessible, providing a superb base from which to explore the dramatic scenery of the Wirral, Cheshire and Liverpool. On the other hand, the hotel retains the charm and grace of a beautiful timbered manor house building. It is Grade II listed and decorated to an exquisitely high standard, offering some of the most luxurious and sumptuous accommodation in the North West of England.
Perhaps the true appeal is that the Hillbark Hotel near Liverpool combines its enviable location and quintessential charm rarely seen in such a complete and satisfying package. The hotel stands at the heart of 250 acres of glorious grounds, lawns and parkland. Drawing up to the entrance of the hotel is an impressive sight, but you may be surprised to learn that despite the Tudor appearance, the building is in fact of Victorian vintage. More intriguing still, has only occupied its current location since 1931. Entrepreneurial soap manufacturer Robert William Hudson originally built the house in 1891 in Birkenhead, some 5 miles away. Sir Ernest Royden bought the property in the 1920s and had it moved brick by brick to its current position, which took three years. To add still further to the building’s idiosyncratic nature, the house contains a 16th Century fireplace, once part of Sir Walter Raleigh’s house; remarkable William Morris stained glass windows; and church screen doors dating from the 13th Century. An eclectic collection of components perhaps, but blended together in a rather fascinating package.
Having undergone a programme of extensive refurbishment and transformation, Hillbark Hotel near Liverpool has opened as a most intriguing country hotel. The hotel is boutique in size, offering a cosy selection of 19 bedrooms and suites. The Yellow Room offers fine dining, and the hotel is a popular choice for weddings, parties and business events.
