Blickling Hall, just outside Aylsham in Norfolk, is a splendid example of a Jacobean stately home, and the handsome 16th century red brick building stands at the heart of beautiful landscaped gardens and grounds. Anne Boleyn spent her childhood at Blickling Hall, although there have been several alterations to the architecture since this time; the wonderfully ornate hall are open to visitors from February to October while the grounds are open year-long.

The Forum is a modern landmark in Norwich’s city centre. Built as a replacement for the central library that was destroyed by fire, the Forum not only houses the city’s library, but is also a centre for learning, information and entertainment. Dating from Norman times, when it was built as a Royal Palace and stronghold, Norwich Castle has housed a museum since 1894, which contains nationally important collections of fine art, archaeology and natural history. Norwich Cathedral is a magnificent Norman Cathedral, one of the finest examples of its type in the UK. Built between the late 11th century and 1145, it towers over the city; its large spire, at 315 feet, is the second tallest in the country, after that of Salisbury Cathedral. Of particular note inside is the wonderful collection of bosses on the structural timbers – there are over 1,000 of them.

The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts is a striking collection of modern artwork, with works from Africa, the Pacific, the Americas, Asia and Egypt, medieval Europe and the ancient Mediterranean. The collection, numbering more than 1,200 superb examples belonging to Sir Robert and Lady Sainsbury, is housed in two distinctive buildings at UEA in Norwich. There is a programme of special exhibitions running throughout the year.

Norwich not only has a superb Anglican Cathedral, but also a Roman Catholic Cathedral; St. John the Baptist Cathedral was built between 1882 and 1910, and was consecrated in 1976. The Catholic Cathedral is in the neo-Gothic style, and is situated a mile or so from the Anglican Cathedral. It is the country’s second largest Catholic cathedral and welcomes many visitors as well as worshippers each week.
