Click for travel directions The Tankerville Arms Hotel is a beautiful 18th century coaching inn in the quiet Northumberland village of Wooler. The period building sits perfectly into the borders of the Northumberland National Park and splendour of the Cheviot Hills. The area is popular with hikers, cyclists and horse riders for its rolling hills and bridleways. The three-star Northumberland hotel is also located pleasingly close to the Northumberland heritage coastline and the Scottish Borders.

Dating to the 1700s, it was the Earl of Tankerville – Charles Bennet – who built the Tankerville Arms in order to look after any additional guests that might not be able to fit into the Earl’s home. In later years it was used for a series of other purposes, including an excise office and a posting house. The Tankerville has also been referred to as Wooler Cottage and even simply as the Cottage at certain points of its history while officially retaining its full title.

Whether Northumberland is your destination or your journey takes you on the long road from England to Scotland, the friendly and welcoming atmosphere of the Tankerville Arms is the perfect place to spend the night. Conveniently located on the A697, the hotel has everything a weary traveller could need from a country hotel: there are 16 comfortable and individually-decorated bedrooms available, suitable for single occupants up to small families on a bed and breakfast or half-board basis. Then there is the onsite eatery, the Cheviot Restaurant, serving delicious local produce, and the Copper Bar, for a well-deserved drink after a day exploring the nearby heritage sites. The hotel also carries a civil marriage license and the facilities to hold a charming traditional wedding service and reception. Indeed, the Cheviot Room can hold functions for groups of up to 70 people while the Coffee Room is able to host smaller scale activities.
