Blenheim Palace is one of the UK’s most instantly recognisable stately homes and is a national treasure. The magnificent palace is the ancestral home of the Dukes of Marlborough, and was the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. In addition to exploring the wonderful palace itself, visitors may also stroll around the beautiful grounds – landscaped by Capability Brown – ride on the miniature train, get close to wildlife in the butterfly house and get lost in the maze. There is also a tearoom and gift shop.

Located a few miles to the west of Oxford, on the banks of the River Windrush, Minster Lovell Hall is a romantic 15th century ruin. It was built in 1435 on the site of an older building, by the Seventh Lord Lovell. However, after siding with the Crown in the Civil War, Francis Lovell lost the house, and it was later dismantled. It makes a peaceful place to relax and to explore what must have been a very impressive manor house.

Oxfordshire and Wiltshire have a high concentration of white horses carved onto hillsides, and the White Horse on the Ridgeway at Uffington is perhaps the most famous. It is 374 feet in length, and believed to be between 2000 and 3000 years old. There are several theories as to why it was created, but no definitive answer; this merely adds to the mystery and intrigue of the figure.
