Blists Hill Victorian Town in Shropshire is a superbly re-created scene depicting how life was for ordinary people in a small industrial town during the 19th Century. Staff are all dressed in period clothes, and do an excellent job to help recreate the atmosphere and keep alive the skills and crafts of the era. There are painstakingly recreated buildings, including a bank, a sweetshop and an iron foundry.

Another of the excellent visitor attractions in Ironbridge Gorge, the Museum of Iron gives visitors a fascinating insight into how pioneering work in this very area led to advances in iron smelting technology, which many believe to have been the precursor to the Industrial Revolution. The original Darby furnace is still in place, as are the beautifully restored Darby Houses, where visitors can experience life as it was for the Darby family during the 19th Century.

Enginuity is an interactive and involving design and technology centre that allows visitors to experience life as one of Shropshire’s pioneering engineers at the birth of the Industrial Revolution. Mickey Miller's Family Play Barn is one of Shropshire’s most popular family days out. The barn is filled with children’s activities to keep the little one’s active and entertained all day. Among the play equipment at Mickey Miller's Family Play Barn are 21ft & 16ft demon drop slides, ladder climbs, a three-lane astra slide, spinning poles, an activity/creative area and an under five’s soft play area. New activities, including a ball pit, are set to be added in the near future. After a hectic day’s play, kids and parents should try a meal at Mrs Miller’s Kitchen.

The Museum of the Gorge, in Ironbridge Gorge in Shropshire, is the perfect introduction for visitors to the wealth of attractions and museums in the area. Originally a warehouse used for storage of porcelain goods, the museum building now houses a lovingly created scale model of the town as it was in 1796, as well as interactive computer technology that allows visitors to find out about the impact of industry on the environment in and around the gorge.

The Severn Valley Railway runs through 16 miles of countryside in the glorious Severn Valley, between Kidderminster in Worcestershire and Bridgnorth in Shropshire. Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery can be found in Rowley’s House, one of Shrewsbury’s many fine timbered buildings, in the heart of the town. Inside is a diverse collection of permanent exhibits spanning natural history, geology, archaeology, local history, costumes, ceramics and a wonderful array of fine art. Additionally, there are regularly changing temporary displays and events to involve the whole family.
