Poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge lived in this charming little cottage in Somerset at the end of the 18th century. During his time here Coleridge wrote the classic ‘Rime of the Ancient Mariner’, the subject of which supposedly sailed from nearby Watchet Harbour. The cottage has been preserved with the help of the National Trust, with personal effects and fascinating details pertaining to Coleridge himself.

Fyne Court is a delightful nature reserve near Bridgwater in Somerset. The National Trust now runs the centre. It combines the headquarters of the Somerset Wildlife Trust, the visitors’ centre for the Quantocks countryside and the attractive Crosse Estate, once owned by Andrew Crosse, the 19th century electrical scientist.

Glastonbury Abbey is set in 36 acres of parkland in the heart of Glastonbury in Somerset. Established under the Saxon King Ine, Glastonbury Abbey grew into one of the finest abbeys in the country. It was rebuilt after a fire in 1184, but sadly could not survive Henry VIII’s Dissolution of the Monasteries, and has stood as a romantic ruin ever since. There is a visitor centre and wonderful gardens to explore.
