Click for travel directionsQuintessentially English, The Swan Hotel at Lavenham features the likes of oak beams, open fireplaces and a history which goes back as far as the 14th century. With a traditional appearance on both the outside and the inside, The Swan is thought to be among the best hotels in the region and certainly serves up an attractive proposition for those seeking a place to stay.

The hotel brings together three former houses but it is not known when it was transformed into an inn. From the 1830s it became an important trading post thanks to its role in the wool industry and was home to 50 horses in the stables. In 1963 The Swan at Lavenham incorporated the wool mill into its buildings while the old bar is known for its roll in hosting RAF and AAF servicemen during the Second World War.

Lavenham’s Swan Hotel is found at the heart of the village in the Suffolk countryside to the south-east of Bury and the north-west of Ipswich. The iconic Tudor hotel offers an excellent base from which to explore the surrounding countryside. There is no train station in Lavenham itself but there are train stations in Sudbury to the south and Bury to the north. If you are travelling by car meanwhile, the A134 is the main road from which visitors can reach the property.

Fairly small, The Swan at Lavenham has just 45 bedrooms and they each take their names from local villages around the county. The rooms, as you’d expect, are traditional in design and feature amenities that bring the property in line with the 21st century. The main place to eat at the hotel is the Gallery Restaurant which has two rosettes to its name. Finally, there are three meeting and event rooms at The Swan which are ideal for the likes of weddings, board meetings and conferences.
