Bagshot
Bagshot
England
Bagshot is a delightful village in the north of the country of Surrey. This small town is adjacent to the M3 motorway, which leads up to the M25. It is also situated on the A30, which leads directly to and from London. Due to these major road connections Bagshot is a convenient place to stop while driving from London through to the West Country. Indeed, the town’s history is based around cross-country travel. It was once a popular coaching stop, and there are still several historic coaching inns dotted around the area. There has been significant growth in this tiny village since the 1950s, but visitors will see that the values of traditional village life have remained protected.

Bagshot may be small but it also has links to royalty, thanks to Bagshot Park. Bagshot Park sits just outside the town centre. It originally held a 17th century hunting lodge belonging to Charles I. Later, it was used by William IV. A new country estate was built here in the 19th century and lived in by Queen Victoria’s son, Prince Arthur, while today it is the home of the Earl of Wessex.

Continuing the Royal theme, guests to this pretty part of Surrey will find that the town is only a few miles from Windsor Great Park. The centre of Windsor is only a little further, and is dominated by the impressive spectacle of Windsor Castle. There are several other towns within easy reach, including Ascot, Bracknell and Farnborough. Likewise, there are plenty of attractions to enjoy including Ascot Racecourse, Legoland Windsor and Thorpe Park, which will entertain both the young and old. Bagshot is easily reached by road and rail, and even Heathrow and Gatwick Airports are within driving distance. There are also some beautiful hotels in the vicinity, making Bagshot a great base for visitors to the Surrey borders.
