Click for travel directions Stratford-upon-Avon is steeped in Shakespearean history and the town’s finest hotels offer accommodation that is rich with heritage. The Macdonald Swan’s Nest Hotel dates from the late 17th century and is one of Stratford’s earliest examples of a brick building. Inside however the hotel’s history is less evident as recently refurbished guestrooms and a chic bar area are neat and clean but fairly generic. The lobby space and some of the communal areas are slightly tired but a welcoming atmosphere pervades.

The hotel is ideally situated on the south side of the River Avon close to the heart of Shakespeare’s Stratford and just a short walk to many sights, shops and bars. From its enviable position overlooking the river, guests at the Swan’s Nest are immersed in the history of this picturesque town and the surrounding Warwickshire countryside.

The Macdonald Swan’s Nest Hotel offers four-star accommodation with the intimate nature of a traditional bed and breakfast. The 68 guestrooms are small but individually decorated in a classic style. Many overlook the gardens or have views across the River Avon. The property is not as grand, impressive or picturesque as its sister hotel Alveston Manor situated just across the road, but does benefit from a superb location and a friendly team of staff. Guests at the Swan’s Nest Hotel also benefit from privileged use of the Alveston’s dining and leisure facilities, which include a celebrated restaurant, a cosy bar, modern conference rooms and the leisure club and spa. Guests of hotel are also free to use the Alveston’s 18-metre swimming pool. The Swan’s Nest has seven multifunctional conference rooms and its 17th century architecture creates a pretty, historic backdrop in the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon.
