The Botanical Gardens in Birmingham brings together 15 acres of manicured gardens and glasshouses that create exotic climates in which rare plants and trees flourish. There are gardens and glasshouses throughout the grounds that are home to all sorts of plants and trees, while there is also woodland space adding a different theme to the mix. In addition, there is a play area and a gift shop onsite.

Otters, foxes, lynx, deer, red pandas, mice and owls are some of the animals set in six acres, next to Cannon Hill Park. Effectively a small zoo, Birmingham Nature Centre was indeed once known as Birmingham Zoo and it now contains a visitor centre and a cafe.

The Museum and Art Gallery in Birmingham is situated in the central Chamberlain Square and was opened in 1885, today holding a grade II listed status. It has two exhibition spaces and 40 galleries while there are also several other museums and historic buildings that are attached to this particular feature. There are some 500,000 objects in the museum and art gallery that date back thousands of years.

In 2010 the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter was named best small visitor attraction in the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence. The museum is a former factory of the Smith and Pepper jewellery manufacturers that closed in 1981. Tools were left out and dirty tea cups littered the sideboards when it closed and it was items such as these that were to form part of today’s museum.

The National Sea Life Centre in Birmingham is home to the country’s first Hammerhead sharks. The centre boasts a whole host of inhabitants, from rays and green turtles to starfish and seahorses. Other activities include the 4D cinema where you can not only see the creatures but smell them and feel them too, while at the rock pool experience explorers and adventures can touch and hold crabs and starfish.
