Armley Mills in Leeds was once the largest woollen mill in the world, at a time when Yorkshire and Lancashire dominated the textiles industry. Today it is an award-winning industrial museum, depicting the history of textiles and clothing manufacture in the area, as well as engines and locomotives. Armley Mills also brings the history of cinema projection to life, with exhibitions of the first moving pictures taken in Leeds, in addition to silent films from the 1920s. Throughout the year, Armley Mills features a programme of events, with regular 'working weekends', in which water wheels, a steam engine and spinning mules are operated.
