Edward Elgar was born in this cottage near Worcester in 1857, and today the cottage is a celebration of the life of one of Great Britain’s finest composers. A fascinating collection of manuscripts, musical scores, concert programmes and press cuttings, as well as photographs from the Elgar family album tell the story of Worcestershire’s most famous musical son.

The Greyfriars is a 15th century merchant’s house that was saved from demolition in the 1930s. The house and its hidden walled garden are now open to the public and maintained by the National Trust. The Greyfriars has been carefully preserved and its panelled interior is filled with antique textiles and interesting furnishings.

The Royal Worcester Visitor Centre nestles amid Victorian factory buildings in Worcester city centre. The Royal Worcester Bestware and Seconds showrooms offer a vast range of quality bone china and porcelain for purchase. The centre is also home to several other attractions. Visitors can learn about the history of the factory and view the world’s largest collection of Worcester Porcelain in the museum. The restaurant offers fine dining inside or out and visitors of all ages will enjoy exercising their artistic side in the paint a plate studio.

Worcester Cathedral stands on the banks of the River Severn in Worcester. Its full name is The Cathedral Church of Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary, and was founded in 680 AD. Much of the current cathedral dates from the 12th and 13th centuries, although significant restoration was carried out in the 1860s. Worcester Cathedral was chosen as the burial site for King John in 1216.
