The New Bath Hotel in Matlock Bath has been reviving tired spirits since the year in which Prince Charles Edward Stuart, Bonnie Prince Charlie, led his Jacobites as far South as nearby Derby. The new bath after which the hotel is named was a naturally heated spa bath opened in 1745 about a quarter of a mile away from the first primitive mineral bath which had operated since 1698. By the end of the 18th century the bath and its arched stone roof were incorporated into the hotel building. Today the "new bath" serves as the hotel’s indoor plunge pool and is still fed by the therapeutic waters of the bubbling mineral spring, which emerge from the ground at a constant 68°F through winter and summer.

As a member of the Brook Hotels Group the New Bath Hotel is dedicated to preserving its impressive heritage whilst simultaneously providing guests with modern facilities. Since the 18th century the hotel has been repeatedly extended and now boasts a fine banqueting hall which can seat 150 and opens onto magnificent gardens providing a charming area to take pre-dinner drinks. As well as the natural spa the New Bath hotel has an Olympic sized outdoor swimming pool, which is open from May to October.
