The house from which the parents of Andrew Jackson, the 7th President of the United States, emigrated has been preserved and restored to its original state. Inside the 1750s-built house is a comprehensive display on the life and career of the US President. The US Rangers Centre is also found here and it comprises exhibits that focus on those in the unit when it was based here in 1942.

The 19th century Belfast Castle is a magnificent sandstone building with close links to the city’s history, and is a must-see attraction during any trip to Belfast. The castle is one of the most prominent and eye-catching landmarks in the Northern Irish capital and from the castle the views are magnificent. Carrickfergus Castle dates from the 12th century and acted as a military garrison until 1928. Having been besieged throughout its 800-year history by the Scots, Irish, English and French, it is one of the most striking defensive fortifications in Ireland. The Norman castle takes up an excellent position overlooking the sea and today it opens for public visits with its banquet hall used for exhibitions.

Spectacularly set atop a rugged crag teetering above the Atlantic Ocean, Dunluce Castle is one of the most imposing and romantic in Northern Ireland. Indeed, its location is so precarious that one night part of the castle, including the kitchen, tumbled into the sea, killing all the cooks and kitchen hands. There were mentions of the castle in the 14th century and today it is preserved as a national monument.

Giant’s Causeway is Northern Ireland’s most popular tourist attraction and the country’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site. The causeway comprises 40,000 interlocking basalt columns resulting from a volcanic eruption and it is a stunning and unusual encounter. Along the coast here there are ruins, slopes, cliffs and fantastic views while in the harbours there are fishermen’s cottages and impressive rock formations.
