Constructed in 1869, the Albert Memorial Clock Tower is a memorial to the late husband of Queen Victoria. This imposing sandstone monument stands 113 feet in height and is colloquially known as the ‘The Big Ben of Belfast’, an epithet that is very clearly appropriate. In recent years a restoration project was undertaken to correct a lean that had developed in the Belfast clock while the foundations were also strengthened at the same time.

The 19th century Belfast Castle is a magnificent sandstone building with close links to the city’s history, and is a must-see attraction during any trip to Belfast. Completed in 1906, Belfast City Hall is an impressive structure built in the Baroque Revival style. The hall is the effective division between the commercial and business areas of Belfast. The hall itself is surrounded by verdant gardens that are a popular meeting place for tourists and locals. The grounds are populated with numerous statues and monuments, including the Belfast Titanic Memorial and Belfast's Cenotaph.

Belfast Zoo covers an area of 55 acres overlooking Belfast Lough. Containing more than 150 species of rare and endangered animals in award-winning enclosures, the zoo is immensely popular with families. At the zoo there is an A to Z of the animal world, beginning with the African Wild Dog and ending with the Zebra. There are also gardens with many plants, a lake, a rainforest house with bats, ducks, pigeons and thrushes, a bird park, and a giraffe and elephant enclosure. You can cap off your visit with a trip to the cafe too.

Opened in 1828, the Belfast Botanic Gardens occupy 28 acres of South Belfast, and are popular with residents and tourists alike on sunny summer days. As well as beautifully kept gardens and plant life there are buildings here in the form of the Palm House and the Tropical Ravine while the setting is also ideal for walking and gentle strolls. A children’s play area, a bowling green and a rose garden go some way further to completing the picture at this striking Belfast location.

Streamvale Open Farm is particularly popular with families, allowing visitors to feed and pet many different types of pet and farm animal.
