Racing driver David Coulthard’s family opened this museum to celebrate the career and achievements of the prominent Scotsman. The museum and pitstop diner is home to trophies, suits and even cars which Coulthard has won, worn or driven over the years. It is set in the Scot’s home town of Twynholm in the Dumfries and Galloway region of the country.

Formerly a Cistercian monastery, the Dundrennan Abbey now lies in ruins near the town of Kirkcudbright in Dumfries and Galloway. It is still possible to see plenty of the abbey’s Romanesque architecture however. It was in this abbey that Mary, Queen of Scots spent her last night in Scotland in 1568; the English imprisoned her shortly afterwards.
Galloway Forest Park

The Galloway Forest Park covers a vast swathe of woodland in the central Dumfries and Galloway region. It covers approximately 300 square miles and was designated as a park in 1947. Some 800,000 visitors make their way to the Forest Park each year for some walking, rock climbing and for the impressive views.

Set in the town of Lochmaben in the Dumfries and Galloway countryside is the Lochmaben Castle ruin. It was built in the 13th and 14th centuries but it was largely rebuilt under the direction of James IV of Scotland some years later.

Arbury Hall is a grade I listed building that is to be found in the northern part of the county near Nuneaton. Built on a 12th century Augustinian Priory the hall lies amid an estate of some 100 acres of park and lakes. The imposing manor house is the family home of the Newdigate family and boasts 18th century architecture.
Southern Upland Way
The Southern Upland Way stretches from Portpatrick on Scotland’s south west coast to Cockburnspath on the eastern side and is the longest walk in the country. It makes its way across lovely scenery in Dumfries and Galloway and further to the east. It is 212 miles long in total but you can enjoy short segments broken up by a stay in a guesthouse or hotel for example.
