The Balgonie Castle is now in ruins, but the castle is located on the edge of the River Leven and was constructed during the 14th century. The castle has undergone a recent reconstruction to help restore certain areas and so is able to host weddings and various other private events and parties.

The foundations of the Abbey date back to 1072 and were constructed under the leadership of King David I of Scotland. It was sacked in the year 1560, leaving it to fall into disrepair; today much of the original structure remains of this attractive landmark building in the town.

This National Trust property was formerly a palace for Scottish kings and it is not hard to see why given its historic and elegant setting. The palace was developed from a castle in the first half of the 16th century and is home to the world’s oldest tennis court still in use, a court which was brought to life in 1539.

Ravenscraig Castle is set on a hilltop just outside Kirkaldy and dates back to around the year 1460. The castle is now in ruins and Historic Scotland work to protect and preserve the building which has been listed as a grade A structure.

Scotland’s Secret Bunker, set under a Scottish farmhouse, was kept secret for 40 years in the aftermath of the Second World War and would have been the place from which the country was governed in the event of a Cold War nuclear attack. The bunker is the size of two football pitches, placed one on top of the other and is set 100 feet underground. Visitors can work their way down to the bunker, not so secret now of course, to discover the plans and the purposes for which the secret location was used.

The Scottish Deer Centre is home to some 140 deer and a range of birds, including one of Scotland’s rarest. The centre puts on outdoor bird of prey demonstrations, while other attractions include the treetop walk, a children’s play area and spaces for parties and functions. During the summer the centre is open from 10 in the morning through until 5 in the afternoon, while during the winter months it closes an hour earlier.
