Almond Valley is located close to Livingston, and offers a family-themed day out. There is a traditional mill and farm on site with examples of traditional Scottish livestock and interactive farming demonstrations. There is also a tearoom, various play areas, a museum, tractor rides and even a simulated archaeological dig.

Dalmeny House is a privately owned stately home just outside Edinburgh. The gothic style mansion dates back to the early 1800s and offers pleasantly guided tours. The interior is largely Regency in appointment, and there is a great display of French furniture, and in particular, a large collection of items related to Napoleon.

Hopetoun House is an elegant Georgian stately home with a history dating back to the turn of the 18th century. The mansion and its 150acres of grounds are still home to the Marquess of Linlithgow, but are also now open to the public. Summer visitors can enjoy the beautifully maintained interior and partake in afternoon tea in the Stables Tearoom. Hopetoun House can also host conferences and wedding parties.

Linlithgow Palace is an immensely historic site. The beautifully located ruin overlooks parkland and the loch, and was for many years the court of the royal Stewart family. The palace was ravaged by fire in the 18th century, but is still an atmospheric site with an extensive history, not least for its status as the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots.

The chapel is renowned for its intricate medieval carvings, but also became famous following its mention as a critical location in Dan Brown’s bestselling novel, The Da Vinci Code. Rosslyn is currently undergoing a substantial period of conservation and restoration to maintain this historic building.

Torphichen Preceptory is a historic church, once the 12th century base of the Knights Hospitaller, who were created during the crusades. The church has played a significant role in Scottish history. As well as the Knights Hospitaller, William Wallace held parliament at the preceptory, and Edward I spent time here for injuries sustained during the Battle of Falkirk.
