Click for travel directions The Macdonald Houstoun House is one of Scotland’s more historic hotels. Much of the present site was constructed in the mid-1500s, and hosted Mary Queen of Scots shortly before her execution. Comprising a 16th century tower, neighbouring manor house and steading, the four-star Edinburgh hotel boasts a uniquely historic character that has made it one of the most popular hotels in Scotland’s central belt. Surrounded by 20 acres of glorious grounds and woodland, the Macdonald Houstoun Hotel has an air of rural tranquillity, but is nevertheless conveniently located for access to Edinburgh and Glasgow.

All 71 guestrooms at the Houstoun House Hotel Edinburgh have been elegantly furnished and come with a wide range of modern facilities, including en-suite bathrooms, satellite television, internet access and IDD telephones. The four-star hotel’s rooms are spread between the towerhouse, the country manor and the steading, and most feature magnificent views of the gardens and the Ecclesmachan Hills beyond.

The hotel’s in-house dining options are impressive. The Tower Restaurant, located on the first floor of the 16th century tower, serves an exciting mix of international specialities and traditional Scottish favourites, and has been awarded an AA Rosette for fine dining. Guests have the chance to work up an appetite before dinner or relax afterwards in the Vital Leisure Club. With an 18-metre swimming pool, high tech gym, sauna, steam room and a range of aromatherapy and beauty treatments, it is unsurprisingly popular with guests. Alternatively, guests can enjoy a round of golf at the nearby Uphall Golf Course.

Edinburgh’s Houstoun Hotel has a majestic setting amid 20 acres of grounds and woodland, which provide the perfect romantic backdrop for wedding photos. The wedding team will help with all the arrangements to create the perfect day. There are also a number of great seminar and conference rooms. All function rooms benefit from natural daylight, air-conditioning and the latest audiovisual and communication equipment. A wide range of activities for team building and corporate away days can also be accommodated within the hotel grounds.
