What better way of reaching the summit of Great Orme than by historic tram? The Great Orme Tramway was built between 1901 and 1903, including the grand Victoria Station in the town itself, close to the modern Victoria Shopping Centre. The journey covers one mile and the views from the top of Great Orme are breathtaking – the town of Llandudno, Snowdonia, Anglesey and Merseyside are all clearly visible.

Llandudno Museum is a fascinating collection of international paintings and objets d’art. It was established in 1927 to house the collections belonging to artist FE Chardon and has evolved into a gallery of international renown. Additionally there is a portrayal of the history of Llandudno, from Neolithic times to it becoming Wales’s most popular seaside resort.

The Oriel Mostyn Art Gallery in Llandudno has one of the most celebrated collections of modern and contemporary art in Wales. There are permanent displays of works by major international artists as well as a year round programme of temporary displays and special exhibitions. Additionally there is a craft shop selling a range of jewellery, glassware, gifts and a selection of books and magazines.

Snowdonia National Park encompasses over 800 square miles of North Wales, dominating much of Gwynedd. The park incorporates a number of mountain ranges including Cadair Idris Mountain and the eponymous Snowdon, climbed as part of the Three Peaks Challenge. The current St Tudno’s Church dates from the 12th century, but there has been a place of worship on this site since the 6th century. St Tudno is the patron saint of Llandudno and the town was named after him. It has evolved steadily over the centuries, although many of its original features still remain intact, including the fabulous stained glass windows and an unusual north-facing window believed to have been used as a light by which mariners could identify their positions at sea.

The Welsh Mountain Zoo sits in a scenic position above the coastal town of Colwyn Bay. It has a surprisingly large range of animal species, including snow leopards, sealions, penguins, porcupines and red pandas. There is also a good selection of events occurring every day, making this a great choice for a family day out.
