Hotel Balzac, Paris ****

Hotel Balzac, ParisThe elegant Balzac Hotel is set in the centre of the French capital, a stone’s throw from famous sites such as the Champs Elysees and the Eiffel Tower. Named after former French novelist and playwright Honoré de Balzac, it was built in the middle of the 19th century to accommodate the Director of the Paris Opera. Indeed, its architectural style is clearly traditional, fitting in well with the stylish buildings in the surrounding area. The hotel’s interior is also particularly traditional in its design and furnishings, with much elaborate decor, while it also features some more modern amenities ensuring its place as a top venue in which to stay when visiting the city. There are antique books from Balzac himself as well as other scenes from his work, all serving to build in a historic and fitting atmosphere. From the third floor upwards it is possible to look out over this attractive and striking city. Indeed, there are views of some of its most impressive sights, including the Eiffel Tower, while also nearby are the likes of the Arc de Triomphe, the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Louvre Museum. With sights such as these it is no wonder Paris is one of the world’s most frequently visited cities.

There are no fewer than three airports within a 30 minute journey of the hotel and so if you are flying into the city it is fairly easy to reach the venue, particularly given the presence of a shuttle or taxi service which runs from the airports to Paris. Meanwhile, if you are travelling by car, there is private parking available for hotel guests. The Balzac contains a total of 70 bedrooms, 13 of which are suites. There are deluxe rooms, traditional rooms, junior suites, corners suites, a presidential suite and a royal suite, each providing a traditional and luxurious setting and some of which include excellent panoramic views of Paris. For meal times the hotel offers elegant spaces in which to dine and relax. Guests can enjoy a meal at the lounge with its glass ceiling and proximity to the hanging garden, while, of course, the cuisine is typically top quality as is fitting of a French restaurant. In addition, there are three small meeting rooms which can accommodate for groups of between six and 10 people. They offer up-to-date facilities and fit in well with the traditional style of the rest of the venue.
