Out and About

Bowness on Windermere is very centrally placed and is quite a hub of activity. Situated between Ambleside and Lakeside, almost directly across from Hawkshead, Bowness benefits from the steam boat services that ply Lake Windermere for pleasure seekers. There is also a car ferry that runs between Bowness and Hawkshead. The train station is approximately a mile away, from which you can easily get a taxi to Blenheim Lodge.

From Blenheim Lodge, it is only a short walk of 2-5 minutes into Bowness town. The closest shops, restaurants and pubs are literally a 2-minute walk from us – although you would not believe it when you consider how peacefully situated we are. (Look out of your window and search for the crowds and traffic in vain!)

Amenities such as banks, an internet café, hairdressing salons, newsagents, a cinema, post office, other shops, restaurants and pubs are about 5-7 minutes’ walk from us. Local attractions, including the Beatrix Potter Attraction, steam boat services, tourist information centre, bus stops and public leisure golf, tennis, crazy golf, and badminton are also 7 minutes’ walk. You can even hire a boat to row on the Lake and a fishing rod!

Activities

The Dales Way is the best known walk from the Yorkshire Dales to the Lake District.

Blenheim Lodge is the first guest house you will see as you come off the Dales Way in Bowness – literally en-route with our front door just a minute’s walk from the end of the trail. Weary walkers embrace our home comforts when they arrive to be greeted with a warm welcome and hot drinks! We have outside taps for boots and a drying room for damp gear.

Close by are a couple of view points. A minute’s stroll from us will take you to the farm gate that leads into the National Park, with its acres of beautiful countryside and signposted walks to explore. Biskey Howe and Post Knott view points command stunning Lakeland views and are just 10-20 minutes’ walk from our door. Post Knott has 360-degree views.

We are also cyclist and biker friendly, with hard standing for motorbikes. For the fisherman, we offer two free fishing permits on a first come first served basis. We can also organize a game of golf for you. If you don’t wish to drive, we have a car park and can arrange sightseeing tours or guided country walks to pick you up from our door.

After a hard day of exploration and enjoyment, why not take advantage of the free membership that we offer at a nearby country club just 7 minutes' walk from us? Refresh yourselves in the swimming pool, sauna, steam room or jacuzzi. Or work up an appetite for dinner in the gym, squash or badminton courts. Table tennis, pool and snooker are also available. Perhaps enjoy a drink or light snack in the lounge bar. If you require spa facilities, there is a solarium and we can also help to arrange beauty and massage treatments.
