Mansfield House Hotel

Weensland Road
Hawick
TD9 8LB

Situated on the east side of the town in about ten acres of grounds, Mansfield House Hotel was the winner of the Taste of Scotland Best Promotion of Healthy Choices in 2006 and enjoys an excellent reputation world wide for good food, wine and friendly personal service. The house was originally the private home of a well-established local family who influenced the many distinctive architectural features.

The current owners have been at the hotel for over 30 years and have restored the hotel, adding features, too. The dining room looks beautiful and offers guests the most elegant surroundings.

Simply Scottish
6-8 High Street
Jedburgh
TD8 6AG

This award-winning modern Bistro specialises in local quality produce in a range of traditional meals from breakfast to dinner, created according to produce availability. In the evening, you can relax in an informal atmosphere with subdued lighting, and enjoy a wide choice of dishes, using top-quality beef, lamb, fish and game; there is also a good choice of vegetarian dishes. With chunky wooden tables and a polished wooden floor the atmosphere is one of stylish informality. Service is friendly, mainly – the owner says – ‘by young local lasses who take a pride in what they do’.

The Queens Bistro

at The Queen’s Head Hotel
Bridge Street
Kelso
TD5 7JD

The Queen’s Head has been operating since 1725 and is the oldest hotel in Kelso with a cobbled courtyard. It was once a coaching inn. The Bistro serves some of the finest food in the Borders and has been awarded Borders Restaurant of the Year by the Borders Tourist Board. It was very highly commended in the Scottish Restaurant with Rooms of the Year 2005.

Burts Hotel
Market Square
Melrose
TD6 9PN

Burts Hotel is a well-established gastro-pub in the shadow of the three peaks of the Eildon Hills in the picturesque Market Square. The distinctive white painted building, with its L-shaped bar and walls adorned with Scottish hunting and shooting scenes, attracts a lively collection of patrons who come to enjoy the hand-pumped beers or the 100+ malts. It won the AA Pub of the Year award in 2005 for providing a very well managed business with excellent food that consistently pleases clientele, critics and food guides alike. Both lunch and supper, prepared from what the owner’s call 'Scotland's Natural Larder' are offered in the relaxing atmosphere of the recently refurbished Bistro bar. The elegant restaurant offers à la carte and table d'hôte menus listing such delicious food of great culinary art, it is hard to choose.
Burts Hotel has 20 bedrooms and is open all year (except 24th-27th December). Private dining and conference facilities are also available.

Halcyon Restaurant

29 Eastgate
Peebles
EH45 8AD

Situated just off the high street, above Villeneuve Wines, Halcyon is a contemporary restaurant that recently won a Best of Borders award in 2005 in the formal meal category for its delicious cuisine created by the chef and co-owner, who was himself justifiably nominated recently for the best New Restaurant of the Year at the Scottish Chef Awards. The menu is imaginative and adventurous, and the dining ambience serene, with paintings from Scottish artists alongside specially commissioned bronze castings from Beltane Studios of Peebles. This is a highly recommended restaurant.
