The Brigstow Hotel is a modern, stylish hotel in the heart of Bristol city centre. It takes a refreshingly different approach to luxury hotel accommodation, with flair and character, as well as a few quirky touches that really set the Brigstow Hotel apart from the rest. The contemporary and funky style of The Brigstow Hotel let it blend in seamlessly with its chic and stylish surroundings; Bristol’s waterways and harbourside have changed dramatically over the last few years, and the transformation of the run down and neglected warehouses and buildings into a modern and vibrant area with a host of bars, restaurants, cafes and nightclubs has been one of the city’s great success stories. The personality of the Brigstow Hotel reflects this resurgent and confident vibe, yet is individual enough to really stand out, making it one of Bristol’s most popular hotel choices.
The Brigstow Hotel takes its name from the tiny Anglo Saxon settlement of Brigstow, which from modest beginnings grew to become Bristol - one of England’s principal ports and by the 18 th Century England’s second city. Much of Bristol’s success stemmed from its great waterways, and as the goods flooded in from the New World, the city was booming at a time when the British Empire covered a quarter of the world’s land area. Yet by the mid 19 th Century, Bristol began to falter as a port – the River Avon’s twists and turns and extreme tides were difficult for the new larger merchant ships to navigate. The appointment of the great Isambard Kingdom Brunel as chief engineer of the Port of Bristol saw a dramatic renaissance in the profitability of the docks, and over the following years Brunel masterminded some of Bristol’s most distinctive landmarks, from the monumental Clifton Suspension Bridge and Bristol Temple Meads Station to the mighty SS Great Britain. The late 20 th Century saw another slump in the fortunes of Bristol’s docks, but yet again the area has regenerated itself, this time under a new guise as a cool and fashionable venue for nightlife, shopping, culture and entertainment. The Brigstow Hotel finds itself at the centre of it all.
