Bristol is the main shopping city in the South West of England, with the region’s biggest collection of major High Street names, large modern shopping centres, designer fashion shops, out of town shopping and retail parks and small curiosity shops and specialist outlets. Bristol is a cool, sophisticated city with a bohemian flavour to much of its revitalised city centre. There are plenty of cafes to revive flagging shoppers, and many of the city’s streets are pedestrianised to make shopping a more pleasant experience. The Broadmead Shopping Centre and the adjacent The Mall Galleries are the city’s main shopping centres and offer a wide selection of shops and outlets, while in the historic Old Town are the Corn Exchange St. Nicholas’ Markets, dating back to the 18 th Century. The city’s West End, in particular Whiteladies Road and Clifton Village, have an elegant selection of designer fashion shops as well as antiques and jewellery. The East Side of Bristol is culturally diverse and is the ideal place to find authentic Asian and Caribbean wares. Out of town shopping can be found at The Mall at Cribbs Causeway; near Junction 17 of the M5, this massive shopping complex contains over 160 shops, cafés and restaurants under one roof.
