The Britannia Hotel Manchester can be found right in the heart of Manchester’s city centre. It stands on Portland Street and features striking architecture, making it one of Manchester’s most instantly recognisable landmark hotels, and at 363 rooms, it is also one of the largest hotels in the city. The Britannia Hotel Manchester was originally used as a textile warehouse and was built in 1858. Manchester owes much of its renown to the textile industry; the somewhat higher than average rainfall and humid climate of the North West made the region perfect for processing cotton and Manchester rose to the fore during the Industrial Revolution as textile mills sprung up at a rapid rate. Although the city’s textile industry is now sadly depleted, there are still many reminders of Manchester’s industrial might, of which the wonderful Grade II listed building occupied by The Britannia Manchester Hotel is just one.
Being in such a central location makes The Britannia Hotel Manchester so convenient for exploring everything this vibrant and exciting city has to offer. Bridgewater Hall, the Opera House, the Palace Theatre and the MEN Arena are all within easy reach, while The GMEX Centre and the Manchester International Conference Centre can be reached on foot within 10 minutes. The hotel stands right in the midst of Manchester’s renowned shopping streets, and The Trafford Centre and Arndale Centre are easy to get to. Manchester’s nightlife is also close at hand, and The Britannia Hotel Manchester also offers its own bars and restaurant; WAVE Bar and Bar-rogue are popular with hotel guests and non-residents alike, and in the shape of Jenny’s Carvery, the Overstuffed Pizzeria and Crompton’s French Restaurant and Bar, the hotel serves a diverse menu of good food. For those who would like to explore Manchester’s own restaurants, you needn’t look far; Chinatown and The Village are only a short walk away, and Manchester caters for all tastes with its eclectic and extensive selection of restaurants. The Britannia Hotel Manchester also offers useful conferencing facilities, with 9 conference rooms equipped to cater for anything from 2 to 200 delegates.
