The glitz and glamour of the Formula 1 calendar reaches the famous Silverstone circuit – home of British motor racing - in the middle of June this year. Thousands of buzzing Formula 1 fans will once again be descending on the Northamptonshire countryside for the eighth Grand Prix of the season. The year 2008 saw a rain-filled classic; Britain’s world-champion Lewis Hamilton put in a fantastic display to finish more than a minute ahead of second-placed Nick Heidfeld, a victory which put him in a three-way tie for first place in the World Championship.
And so as we approach the 2009 encounter the big questions must be asked: Will Lewis Hamilton win his home Grand Prix again as he seeks to retain the world title? Will Jenson Button continue his fine start to the 2009 season and come out victor in this, his home circuit? Will the McLarens and Ferraris burst back into contention after their relatively disastrous starts to the campaign?
Friday the 19th is the day for first and second practice, while Saturday sees the final practice and the all-important qualifying take place. Then, of course, the big race gets rolling at 1pm on Sunday. If you have your tickets booked for the weekend and are looking for a place to stay then take a minute to browse our local Northamptonshire hotels or our Milton Keynes hotels. If you are travelling into the country from overseas then you may wish to spend a night in London before you reach the track.
Of particular interest is the four-star Hellidon Lakes Golf and Spa Hotel which is approximately 16 miles from Silverstone. If you book and pay before May 31 the hotel will even offer a complimentary picnic hamper for you to take to the race!
