Apart from the beautiful sandy beaches, the relaxed way of life and the fascinating history, the Channel Islands are something of a shopping paradise, the exemption from VAT making many goods, particularly electronic equipment, perfume and jewellery, considerably less expensive than on the UK mainland. Please be advised that due to the costs involved transporting goods to the islands, some outlets may recoup this outlay with higher prices. Generally however, UK customers can expect useful savings on most products. Although there is a bewildering selection of specialist shops scattered throughout the Channel Islands, much of the High Street shopping is based in St. Helier on Jersey and St. Peter Port on Guernsey. The relaxed pace of these two island capitals makes for a very pleasant shopping experience, and the range of shops is good by the standards of any UK small town.
