The Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum can be found in the centre of this historic town, and is home to an award-winning collection of fine art, ceramics, jewellery, furniture and local history, laid out in an involving and interesting manner. As well as the permanent displays, there is an impressive programme of temporary displays and exhibitions throughout the year.

Cheltenham’s Everyman Theatre was designed by the famous Victorian architect Frank Matcham and building was complete by 1891. Throughout its history, spanning three centuries, the Everyman Theatre has proudly offered the highest levels of entertainment, arts and education, and with its programme of events bristling with the top names of theatre, this trait is set to continue into the 21 st Century.

The Pittville Pump Room was built during the mid to late 1820s as the grand centrepiece of wealthy politician and entrepreneur Joseph Pitt’s Cheltenham estate. It was the largest of the many pump houses in the town from which the famous spa waters could be taken, and the sulphur and iron rich waters can still be taken today by visitors, although a strong constitution may be required! Pittville Pump Room houses a fascinating museum and hosts a programme of events throughout the year. It may also be hired for cultural, commercial and community events.

Cheltenham Racecourse is the home of, and is synonymous with, National Hunt Racing in the UK. Between October and May every year, Cheltenham is the venue for steeplechasing and hurdling, with the world’s finest jockeys, trainers and mounts in attendance. The highlights are the famous Cheltenham Gold Cup in November and the magnificent four day Cheltenham Festival in March. Gustav Holst, the genius behind ‘The Planets’, was born in Cheltenham in 1874, and the Regency terrace house in which he was born has been dedicated to the man and his music, with a superb collection of his personal belongings. It also provides a fascinating glimpse of life in Cheltenham in the Victorian era, the house having been executed with period perfection.

Imperial Gardens

Cheltenham’s famous Imperial Gardens were originally intended for the exclusive use of patrons of Sherborne Spa, which stood on the site now occupied by the Queen’s Hotel. The current layout of the gardens is a result of a major replanting in the years following the Second World War. A colourful array of over 25,000 bedding plants is enjoyed by thousands of visitors every year, while during the summer months, outdoor events such as the Cheltenham Literature Festival and Bands in the Park are held in this wonderful setting.
