Cheshire has a very good selection of shopping facilities, both around the county itself and in the nearby cities of Manchester and Liverpool, both of which are renowned for their ample provision of shops, department stores and other retailers. In Cheshire, most of the well known shops can be found in the county’s larger towns and city centres, with a particularly good array of facilities in Warrington and Chester – the latter in particular has a good mix of familiar names and smaller independent retailers lining its historic streets.

Golden Square Shopping Centre in Warrington first opened in 1979; it is currently undergoing a major extension and refurbishment programme which, when it is completed in 2007, will give the town one of the best shopping centres in the North West.
