The Compleat Angler is a famous and historic hotel on the banks of the River Thames in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. Dating from 1640, the Compleat Angler is situated at the south end of the handsome Marlow Bridge; at the other end of which lies the beautiful Georgian market town of Marlow itself. The hotel offers stunning views of Marlow Weir and along the River Thames, and is the perfect place from which to enjoy the gentle meanderings of boats passing by. The hotel takes its name from the seminal text on the art of fishing ‘The Compleat Angler, Or The Contemplative Man's Recreation’, written by Isaak Walton in 1653. Intended solely as a guide to fly-fishing, the text to this day is an evocative depiction of one of that most quintessential of English pursuits – enjoying life on the river.
There are 64 rooms and suites, each one stylishly and elegantly furnished, and many feature superb views of the river. There is also an excellent Riverside Restaurant, in which critically acclaimed and beautifully prepared international cuisine can be enjoyed in an atmospheric setting; a fabulous al fresco brasserie with its own riverside terrace; a cosy oak-panelled cocktail bar; and for business customers, 3 stylish and well-equipped conference suites and 2 boardrooms for an event venue with a real difference. Additionally The Compleat Angler offers a range of leisure packages, allowing you to indulge yourself and float away into a paradise of tranquillity. The Compleat Angler must surely rate as one of the most romantic hotels on the Thames, and what better way of experiencing the river than with a trip aboard one of the Compleat Angler’s two boats – with their own professional skipper at the helm, you can get on with taking in the scenery and perhaps enjoying a champagne picnic.
