The Megalithic tomb at Knowth is the sister site of Newgrange. It is believed to have been constructed after the Newgrange tomb, but is itself more than 5,000 years old.

Kells Round Tower and High Crosses

A 100-foot high round tower and a number of crosses are to be found at Kells. The tower dates from the 11th century and was the site of Murchadh Mac Flainn, High King of Ireland’s murder in 1076. The High Crosses, meanwhile, are decorated with biblical scenes and are considered to be among Ireland’s most important crosses.

Trim Castle was constructed in the 12th century and is the largest Anglo-Norman castle in Ireland and one of the largest in Europe. The site is one of Ireland’s most impressive and was used in several scenes of Mel Gibson’s smash hit film Braveheart.
