The remains of the Glendalough Monastic Site are located beside the Lower and Upper Lake and are one of the most popular tourist sites in Ireland. The original monastery, founded by St Kevin in the 6th century, was destroyed in the 14th century by English troops. A 33-metre 11th century round tower built to defend against Viking attacks and a Celtic High Cross, remain however.

Wicklow’s Historic Gaol is a new attraction in Wicklow town . The site has been occupied by a jail since 1702 and was operational until as late as 1924. The museum tells the story of the thousands of men, women and children imprisoned here over the centuries.
